Senior Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nurse

JCUVet is a referral centre and teaching hospital, offering 24/7 care to small animals in Townsville through our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) department. As the only referral hospital in North Queensland, we see a great variety of cases from all over regional Queensland.  Our ECC department is made up of a large team of veterinarians and Cert IV qualified veterinary nurses, supported by a full-time specialist Emergency and Critical Care veterinarian.

As the ECC department continues to grow, we now wish to provide more dedicated support and guidance to our team of 30+ veterinary nurses and are seeking to appoint an experienced and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join the team in a leadership role.

About the Role
Working in a genuine clinical capacity, your input on all nursing matters will be greatly valued to guide positive change and development within the team.  Areas we expect the role to encompass are:

  • Overseeing nurse mentoring and development
  • Ensuring a high standard of nursing care
  • Developing and implementing nursing protocols
  • Assisting with nurse rostering
  • Liaising with and working collaboratively with other departments
  • Assisting us to continue to build upon a positive working culture
  • Providing CPD opportunities for JCU Vet staff and the wider veterinary community
  • Good combination of day, afternoon, evening, and night shifts

About you

  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, ECC Diploma or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology
  • Minimum of 3 years ECC, referral and/or nursing team management experience
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Genuine passion for leading, guiding and training veterinary nurses
  • Proficient in a range of advanced veterinary nursing skills
  • Able to work collaboratively and independently

  • $2000 Sign On Bonus for commencement between Oct 2023 – Jan 2024 (T&C’s apply)

Sign On Bonus T&C’s – only applies to new employees to JCUVet and not to existing employees making an internal move.  Applies to the appointment of this role on a full time basis.  $500 paid upon commencement and $1500 upon successful completion of probation.
