Emergency and Critical Care at JCUVet
As one of the only 24-hour dedicated and specialist-led Emergency and Critical Care services in North Queensland, our experienced and compassionate team is here for you and your pet when you need us the most.
We are available 24 hours a day, including public holidays, weekends, and weeknights, when your regular veterinarian may be closed or when specialist critical care is needed. Led by our Criticalist, Dr. Yenny Indrawirawan, we provide cutting-edge care to even the sickest patients.
Just like a human hospital, our Emergency Department operates on a triage basis, ensuring pets with life-threatening conditions are seen before more stable cases.

What is Triage?
Triage ensures that pets with life-threatening conditions are treated first. When you arrive, our experienced nursing staff will:
- Assess your pet’s condition.
- Perform a full physical examination.
- Prioritize patients requiring immediate veterinary care.
Like human emergency departments, caseloads and wait times can vary. Calling ahead is encouraged so our team can prepare and keep you updated on waiting times.
