Working at JCUVet

Whether you are looking for a role as a specialist, vet, nurse or office administrator, we share the common goal of providing the best care possible for our clients and patients.
JCU Univet Pty Ltd, trading as JCUVet was established in 2009 as corporate company of JCU in order to provide the clinical tuition to final year veterinary science students of JCU.
JCUVet is currently the only animal emergency hospital in North Queensland. It also functions as a general practice specialising in small animals. Animal owners or their vets may refer their pets to JCUVet for emergency treatment, procedures and surgery or may utilize the services of our General Practice, as they would with an ordinary veterinary practice. Injured wildlife and other animals are also brought to us.
Due to the high standards of teaching and care provided, we boast a state-of-the-art veterinary facility and equipment including advanced anaesthetic monitoring and ventilation equipment, advanced diagnostic imaging equipment including comprehensive ultrasound, digital dental x-ray, video endoscope and a 64 slice CT scanner.
JCUVet employs approximately 60 staff comprising Hospital Director, Business Services Manager, Clinical Support Manager, Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses, Animal Attendants and a small administrative support team. The team is complimented by locum veterinarians and visiting services including specialists of surgery, dermatology and cardiology.
In their fifth and final year of study, JCU students undergo a program comprising 10 weeks of practical experience at JCUVet involving two-week rotations in each of the key areas; emergency, medicine, anesthesia and general practice. They are taught authentic clinical practice via tutoring, supervision, mentoring and assessment by our experienced team members.

As an emergency animal hospital that services a large geographical area, we are very fortunate to experience a varied, interesting and challenging caseload. This provides our staff with exposure to diseases and illnesses that may otherwise not be experienced elsewhere.
We genuinely provide an exceptionally high level of practice in a fast paced environment, and this offers the opportunity for vets and nurses to build on their existing skillset and lifelong learning. As we offer the main veterinary disciplines there is opportunity for vets and nurses to transition between disciplines throughout their time with us.
We offer an experienced, friendly and dedicated team in which to work where everyone pitches in and offers a hand when needed, thus meeting our values.
