JCUVet is a controlled entity of James Cook University, and thus we provide the clinical tuition to final year veterinary students whilst providing a general practice and referral service to the surrounding community.  As the only referral animal hospital in NQ, we get to work on incredibly interesting and unique cases.

Join us as we embark upon an exciting journey of continuous improvement with the recent change in the management structure, implementation of people and culture initiatives and a renewed focus on mentoring and support.

As a smaller referral hospital, we have the luxury of working in a close-knit collaborative fashion with specialists from various disciplines.  In addition, you will love our state-of-the art facilities and equipment – such as in-house 160 slice CT scanner, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, mechanical ventilator, advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment, and a fully equipped in house laboratory with adjacent specialist pathology lab.

What we will offer you

If you are membered in ECC or a related small animal discipline we will be happy to discuss how we can support your ongoing education the field.  Whether it’s supporting your interest in research opportunities with the university, upskilling you in ultrasound, or helping you pursue your interest in teaching, we’re willing to invest in the progression of your career.

If you have the right characteristics to succeed in an emergency environment and a strong desire to progress with your career in ECC, we will cover the cost of your membership examinations as well as provide you with guidance and support through your studies.

When these positions are filled, you will enjoy a good balance of day, night and evening shifts.  Additionally, we offer paid annual registration with the QLD VSB and radiological council, regular in-house CPD including journal club & clinician rounds, five weeks’ annual leave, 2 weeks study leave per annum and a $1500.00 yearly CPD allowance.

If you have been considering a sea change, why not take this opportunity for assisted relocation to Townsville?  Perfectly positioned within relative proximity to Cairns and the Whitsundays, Townsville is a vibrant city with a world class football stadium, choice of dining and entertainment options, quality schools and some of the best fishing, snorkelling, diving and boating in Australia.   Not to mention affordable urban and rural housing options all within a short drive of work.
