General Vet Services

Our hospital features a range of in-house pathology equipment to provide accurate and timely diagnostic tests for patients. These tests can measure the blood, fluids and body tissue of your pet, in order to identify existing diseases or illnesses. We also have access to more extensive testing through the JCU Pathology Laboratory on campus.

In-house pathology testing is particularly important for our emergency service, where our vets need information about their patient’s condition immediately, in order to prescribe the most appropriate medication or treatment plan.

Some of the most common pathology tests at JCU Vet include:

  • Blood (pre-anaesthetic blood profiles, general health screens and endocrine system/hormones).
  • Urinalysis (health of the kidneys, urinary system and other organ systems).
  • Faecal tests (checking for intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, coccidia and giardia).
